Abortion
Abortion. The Courts have ruled that this is an issue for the states to decide and as I am running for U.S. Congress, I would likely not vote on anything related to ‘abortion’. However, it is an issue that is of great concern to many voters and as to a candidate’s position on ‘abortion” under the law.
I will state my position as to what I would support or oppose as to the law. NOT my PERSONAL views (though I will put my PERSONAL views at the end).
The option for abortion is now codified in CA state law by popular referendum. The people wished the option to allow a mother to abort/terminate/kill her unborn child. I do not think that a society of laws should criminalize such actions as it could not and would not prevent a mother from aborting her unborn child; as she can have an abortion by taking a pill or going to another state/country and getting one.
Criminalization of abortion advocates have refused to accept that it is pointless to think that ‘criminalization” will ‘stop” even one abortion. With Roe v. Wade being overturned, the ‘discussion” was NOT on whether a criminalization would stop a single abortion. Politicians that pitch criminalization know it’s a false promise as do the politicians who are ‘standing up for choice’. Were it to be criminalized, we would still not have prosecutors prosecute her and if they did juries would not convict her.
Politically, I am not condoning the murder of the unborn, I am merely pointing out that the law cannot effectively override a mother’s choice. I see that by removing it as a legal and political issue I can better address it as to it’s moral context. Then we can work to change the hearts and the minds. That is the only way to reduce or end abortion. Therefore, I do NOT support the criminalization of abortions.
As to my PERSONAL beliefs. As a Christian, I will follow as God directs. The unborn child is a precious human life and to abort is to kill, to kill without cause is murder, regardless of how the child was conceived. Two wrongs do not make a right.\
Personally, my oldest daughter was conceived ‘out of wedlock”. Her mother committed to keeping her. For that, I am beyond grateful for the life of my daughter, her sister, brother and now my grandchildren. Her mother made a courageous decision. She could have chosen to have our daughter adopted, but she did not, this allowed me to raise my daughter. Were my daughter’s granddaughter to face the same challenge I would advocate that she NOT kill her unborn child, adoption is an option.
